Weeds are a major problem in Australia, with many introduced species (such as blackberry), now well beyond ever being able to be eradicated and removed from the mainland. The impacts on the environment, economy and recreation are far-reaching, costing an estimated $8 billion per annum alone in lost productivity and weed control measures (Australian Weed Strategy 2017-2027).
At Acres Land Management Services, we take an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach to weed control. This means that we adopt a broader view of the infestation and examine the contributing factors in order to select the right control techniques, applied at the right time, and in the right order, to achieve effective control.
This can at times require some lateral thinking, with non-chemical controls sometimes being the ideal option, particularly when aiming for long-term control. Examples may include, changing what the land is used for, introducing competition through native revegetation or alternative crops, vehicle hygiene, reducing soil disturbance etc.
We offer a number of evidence-based weed control options including:
Chemical control - We hold a commercial operator's license under the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Act 1992. This means our staff are licensed and trained in the safe and correct application of registered herbicides.
This may include application by high-volume hand spraying, cutting & painting, stem injection, low-volume gas gun or knapsack spraying.
We can provide weed spraying services across a number of areas including roadsides, rural properties, walking tracks, industrial yards, footpaths, parks, around buildings, infrastructure, driveways, fencelines, carparks etc.
Physical control - The physical destruction of particular weeds can be an effective control option. With large infestations of woody weeds, reducing the physical biomass prior to spraying can be useful in reducing the volume of herbicide required and allows better access for targeted application.
Our physical control options include mowing/slashing, forestry mulching, tilling and removal by hand.

The prolific abundance of pest animals across Australia has been an ever-growing problem since European settlement. Their impacts are extensive and in some cases permanent, for example, foxes and feral cats have played a role in the extinction of 28 of the 30 now completely extinct or near-extinct Australian marsupials. Feral cats consume an estimated 1.5 billion native birds, reptiles, rodents, marsupials, and 1.1 billion invertebrates every year.

As with all pest and weed control, we apply an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach, in order to understand the impacts of pests and develop a solution that works for you and your land. Achieving effective control over an area will take time, and requires a number of steps to be taken at the right times of the year. A multifaceted approach works best, working with landowners to minimise the impacts of the pest.
Whilst ferreting or shooting may offer a temporary reduction in populations of rabbits or foxes, they are not considered 'best practice' when used as stand-alone controls. They are labour-intensive and do little to reduce populations over the long term.
Acres Land Management Services applies an evidence-based approach to pest animal control. The services we offer include:
Red Fox (Vulpes Vulpes)
European Rabbit (Oryctolagus Cuniculus)
We hold a commercial operator's license under the Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals Act 1992, with specific endorsements for the use of poison baits and fumigants. This means our staff are licensed and trained in the safe and correct application of these products in order to humanely destroy vertebrate pests.
We work with landowners to identify all risks on their property and neighbouring properties prior to commencing any control program. Not all control options we offer will be appropriate or safe for your individual property. We will advise you on the options available to you based on property size, location, risk to off-target species or pets, topography etc.
